Q - How large is Deep Creek Lake?
A - Deep Creek Lake is the largest fresh-water lake in Maryland and is man-made.
The Lake is 13-miles long, with 68-miles of shoreline and covers 39,000 acres.
The depth is up to 75-feet. Construction on the lake began in 1923 and was
completed in 1928.
Q - Where can I get access to High Speed Internet during my stay?
A - The Lodge has free high-speed wireless Internet in our Lobby.
Q - Are guests allowed to fish and/or swim right behind the Lodge?
A - Our guests are more than welcome to fish and swim in the lake just behind the
Lodge. Since the Lodge is located in a very quiet cove of the Lake with little traffic,
it is ideal for swimming and fishing.
Q - What are the Check-In and Check-Out times for the Lodge?
A - Check-In is at 3:00 PM and Check-Out is at 11:00 AM
Q - While vacationing at Deep Creek Lake what are my changes of
being the victim of crime?
A - Deep Creek Lake area is extremely safe. Serious crime and violence are nearly
non-existent.
Q - What is the largest size boat allowed on the Lake?
A - Runabouts are up to 26 feet and pontoon boats up to 32 feet are permitted.
Q - How many residences are there around Deep Creek Lake?
A - There are approximately 2,500 residences located in the Deep Creek Lake
Watershed.
Q - Will my cell phone work during my vacation to Deep Creek Lake
area?
A - While you may experience some "dead spot" areas, nearly all cell phone
networks work in this area. Verizon has the best service that we have found.
Q - Does the Lodge sell Gift Certificates?
A - Yes we do. If you are looking for the perfect gift for a significant other, family
member, co-worker or friend our gift certificates are the right choice for you. Check

Q - What is the difference between Deep Creek Lake and McHenry?
A - Many visitors to this area are often confused when this area is referred to by
both of the above terms. Because of the increasing popularity and importance of
Deep Creek Lake, many locals have over the years began to refer to McHenry as
Deep Creek Lake. So, yes, these two terms refer to the same town.
Q - How far is the Lodge & Ski Slopes from the nearest medical
facility?
A - The closest hospital, Garrett Memorial Hospital, is a short 13 minute drive from
the Lodge and Ski Slopes in Oakland, MD. Also there is a walk-in Medical Clinic
located right in McHenry/Deep Creek Lake area, 5-minutes from the Lodge.
Q - If I bring my own boat to dock at the Lodge is there a place to
launch there?
A - You can either launch at Bill's Marine Service North - just 200-yards away or at
the Deep Creek Lake State Park - about 6-miles away . A small fee applies,
payable to the State of Maryland.
Q - Is there a place to park my boat trailer?
A - Yes, we have parking for trailers either at the Lodge or at a Lodge property
located about 1/2 mile away. Please be sure to ask the front desk personnel where
the best place is to park your trailer, during check-in.
Q - A friend of mine visited Deep Creek Lake recently during the
weekend, he told me that on Sunday he ordered wine and was told
that Garrett County was a "dry" county on Sundays. Is this true?
A - Garrett County used to be a dry county but beginning December 15, 2008,
alcohol will be served at restaurants only - on Sundays in the Deep Creek Lake
area only, from 11:00pm to 8:00pm. However alcohol sales will still not be
permitted at beverage stores. Beverage sales are available in nearby West
Virginia - about 2o minutes away.
Q - Where do I buy fishing supplies and a fishing license?
A - Fishing supplies and licenses can be purchased at the Deep Creek Outfitters
store, located just 200-yards away from the LakeStar Lodge. Their staff is also
very knowledgeable about fishing in the area. BTW - a 45 inch Northern Pike was
caught in the lake last summer about a 1/4 mile south of the LakeStar Lodge. The
cove located behind the Lodge is also a very popular fishing spot. Some great
catches have been made right off the LakeStar Lodge docks!
